The quantum computer is the ultimate machine that will let us uncover the behavior of atoms and molecules at a level of precision that no classical computer can match. As we celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the discovery of Erwin Schrödinger's famous quantum equation that started the first quantum revolution, we also witness a surge of quantum computers coming online around the world. They are powerful, but still immature, and noise in the hardware makes them difficult to utilize.

A big challenge is to create software technology that can take advantage of these machines. Such software has to achieve three goals:

  1. Accessibility for non-quantum experts
  2. Scalability for real-world problem sizes
  3. Acceptable cost-to-value ratios

Today, Danish company Kvantify is taking a huge step forward on the software side, launching Kvantify Qrunch — a technology built to do quantum chemistry on real quantum computers.

Kvantify Qrunch has the potential to transform molecular discovery, creating new drugs, materials and energy solutions by coupling quantum and classical computing.

With Kvantify Qrunch, research scientists in Pharma and Materials can get started easily with a disruptive technology — in an accessible, scalable and cost-efficient way.

"The potential of Kvantify Qrunch is enormous. We designed it for accessibility, so that users that are not quantum experts can start using this powerful technology," says Professor Nikolaj Zinner, CSO at Kvantify.

Kvantify Qrunch does not only make it easy for users to do quantum calculations. It also allows them to simulate complex chemistry problems on a quantum computer with unprecedented performance.

"The launch of Kvantify Qrunch is a critical milestone, mediating the transformation of molecular discovery via quantum computing," says Dr. Jörg Weiser, Executive Chairperson to the Kvantify Board.

Danish Biotech Giant Novonesis is Among the First to Test Kvantify Qrunch

For pharmaceutical and materials-science applications, the capabilities of Kvantify Qrunch mean reduced project timelines, expanded scope of tractable molecular systems, and the ability to model larger, commercially relevant molecules.

"With this kind of calculation and subsequent analysis of how enzymes behave during catalysis, we can gain a deeper understanding of fundamental biological processes. We will gain insights that can improve the efficiency of our existing enzyme products," notes Lars Olsen, Senior Department Manager at Novonesis.

Integrated Hardware is Provided by IQM Quantum Computers

Kvantify Qrunch is launched on quantum computers from the Finnish-German company IQM, a global leader in superconducting quantum computing. With that partnership, Kvantify and IQM form a European champion for quantum computing on quantum computers.

"Performant quantum software is a crucial component in commercializing quantum computing, and Kvantify Qrunch provides just that. We are pleased to collaborate with Kvantify to strengthen the European quantum ecosystem and leverage synergies between hardware and software," remarks Jan Goetz, Co-CEO and Co-founder of IQM Quantum Computers.
